No Surprise, I’m A Bitter Person

My best friends always say, “If you want the truth, the bitter truth, and you’re ready for that, go to eKa.” I’m good at pointing out ironies, making fun of people’s mistakes, telling people what kind of bitter reality to face and not even trying to beautify it. But, I’m never good at comforting people. I suck, badly.

Then I got this quote while watching Bones. Came from Camille Saroyan:
“If you’re looking for reassurance, find someone who’s not such a good friend, Seeley.”

I finally got a reason why I suck at cheering up people. I’m not reassuring, comforting, or whatever it is, because I’m honest and I have a high respect for honesty. So, don’t come whining to me… I won’t make you smile. I’ll only make you cry harder.

I’m addicted to Bones…

This can be good or not so good. Good because finally I have something to distract me from my undergraduate thesis. And not good because now I’m too occupied by this series to work on my thesis.

Bones reminds me of The X-Files for those FBI & forensic things, but this one’s lighter & more enjoyable than the former, and fortunately no little green or gray men in flying saucers. Stories center on a forensic anthropologist at The Jeffersonian Institute named Dr. Temperance ‘Bones’ Brennan (I know something’s wrong with that name.. Temperance.. so weird…) that later discovered that she’s a daughter of a fugitive couple (oops.. spoiler for you who haven’t watched season 1 finale). She works with an FBI agent, Seeley Booth, to solve cases involving unidentified corpse and bones. Together with them, there are 3 other ‘squints’ in the team: Hodgins, the bugs & slime guy; Zack, Brennan’s grad student; & Angela, the 3D reconstructions artist. Above them, a superior in The Jeffersonian Institute: Dr. Goodman in first season, then Dr. Camille Saroyan in second season that ‘happened’ to be Booth’s ex back in NY (huh.. so cliché…).

They work together to provide forensic evidence to various murder cases. Booth & Brennan find corpses or bones. Brennan & Zack work on the dental records & the cause of death by bones’ condition. Hodgins examine the bugs & dirts contained in the corpse or bones, usually related to a crime scene. Angela works facial reconstructions & murder scenarios in 3D. I haven’t seen the whole first season so I don’t know what exactly Goodman do, but Cam Saroyan usually do anything related to full autopsy, flesh, DNA, & finger prints.

As you expect, there’s some kind of ‘tensions’ (romance tensions, to be exact) between Brennan & Booth. But still early to jump to conclusions (Brennan’s punch line: “don’t jump to conclusions”). But I think, they better off to be just partners. They’re cute as partners. You know, like boy-girl-best-friend relationship you had in high school. But for those who like on-screen-romance you’ll get Hodgins-Angela in season 2, which is also cute.

I think I like the series because the mix of crime, science, romance, witty dialogs, a little suspense, unique characters, silly-anti-social geeks and interesting puzzle in each episode. Of course, there are episodes that too far from reality or too boring but there are best episodes as well. My favorite is The Aliens In The Spaceship in season 2.

In the end, it’s always up to your taste. But I can recommend this series for FBI & crime stories’ fans out there.
